Hi, welcome to my world....let's begin.
According to the offline dictionary on my phone, nicknames are familiar invented names for a person or thing used other than their real names based on noteworthy characteristics. Personally, I think they are so much more than that.
Some might disagree with me, but I still stand by this. Over the course of growing up,I have been through so many phases and to an extent life changing events. This events and phases have not only made me who I am but earned me different nicknames.
To start the list is a cherished one from my mom, this one was for what we popularly know has "whining", which always worked by the way.
So, my mom starts by saying "hamy hamy"and then starts to smile , very big , might I add. After a few tries, I crack up, not just cause of the nickname but the fact that while she smiles,I see her gold teeth, which is a distinct feature her smile holds.
Moving on to the next is my dad's, this names come at random times and always make me laugh because why am I "sikira" or "sister mary" but nonetheless I love them and not forget there's also "hamiii"
The epic ones as we all know come from siblings and guys this people did me bad. From my eldest brother,I had a lot. When I was fifteen,I had an head injury that left a mark on my forehead and they coined the nicknames "moonshine" and"moon knight" .
At a particular time in my life, there was a certain celebrity I adored, coupled with the fact that we shared the same birthday; my eldest brother started calling me "Myra condor" which was a combination of my nickname and her surname.
When I got a new phone( an itel brand), I was "amarachitel". Later on I created a nickname myself "Myra (pronounced Mira), he pronounced it as "Maira".
From my friends, I got random nicknames like "hami Koko" from my junior secondary school days or just"hami". Personally,I love being called "Myra" or better still my Yoruba name "Oluwanifemi".
My point is nicknames are a representation of certain memories, could be bad or good, but they carry an importance to you and those who who identify with it. A little time back,I asked my friend the meaning behind her nickname and she said it was a compilation of the first letters of her parents and siblings name, which was originally created by her dad who is late now ( may his soul rest in peace) for the name of the businesses he was to have , and she now uses the name in his honour to fulfill his wishes, which I found very impressionable.
This examples like many others are an indicator of what power nicknames have, as I said earlier, some might agree and others might not. So let me know what you think, have I convinced you to believe my notion? or Am I just rambling based on random personal events?
Thank you,
Creative Myra.

Very relatable. I agree with this new look at nicknames, as a solid concept itself. Well done Myra
